In order to maintain the functionality of your tank system, tank renovation can help to save costs in the long term and also minimize the risk of oil leaks to protect the environment.
If, during a tank cleaning or a recurring inspection, it is determined that the tank system is no longer in a safe operating condition or that the tank drip tray has significant defects, we recommend renovating it using an inner tank lining (leak protection lining).
This special leak protection is designed for cylindrical and rectangular steel tank systems. By installing the leak protection lining, the tank becomes double-walled.
This means that complex renovation work on the tank rooms and tanks in accordance with TRbF 20 is no longer necessary. The leak protection lining is specially made for each tank. It is spread out inside the tank and fixed to the inside wall of the tank using a vacuum. A leak warning device is used to monitor and maintain the vacuum.

Are heating oil tank systems or the construction of new tank systems still permitted?
What you need to know (as of 01/2023):
It is planned that from January 1, 2026, renewable energies will be used proportionally when installing a new oil heating system.
The type and level of required integration of renewable energies has not yet been determined.
Until December 31, 2025, the installation of a new oil heating system in an existing building will be possible as before.
In most cases, operators of heating oil tank systems do not yet have to take any action in connection with the Building Energy Act (GEG).
Systems that are more than 30 years old must be replaced or upgraded under certain circumstances. These requirements also apply if you modernise your property on a larger scale
There is no general ban on oil heating systems. However, the installation of oil boilers will no longer be permitted everywhere from 2024.
However, oil heating systems may still be installed and put into operation until the end of 2023.

A plastic tank must be replaced if the following conditions apply:
Bulge in the bottom area of the tank (so-called elephant foot).
in the event of deformations in the tank roof, as this could endanger connecting lines for filling and venting the tank as well as for removing heating oil
in case of brittleness or heavily discolored container walls
if there are signs of excessive stretching
in the case of other irregularities in the tank system (e.g. tilted to the side, bulging or kinking inwards)

Does my tank system meet the current legal requirements?
As the operator of a heating oil tank system, you are responsible for its proper operation.
According to Section 46 Paragraph 1 AwSV, the operator must also regularly ensure that the system is operated without defects.
